Single-core insulation piercing branch connectors for LV cables

Single-core insulation piercing branch connectors for self-supporting LV cables, suitable for the simultaneous connection of the main line cable and the branch cable without removing the insulation. Ideal for overhead low-voltage copper or aluminium networks, they ensure long-term electrical and mechanical reliability and a degree of protection up to IP4X.

Technical specifications Single-core insulation piercing branch connectors for LV cables

Structure and materials

  • Active conductive part made of tinned copper or tinned aluminium, with Brinell hardness HB > 100 and minimum tin plating thickness of 5 μm.
  • Connector body made of insulating, self-extinguishing PBT material, designed for installation on outdoor LV lines.
  • Hot-dip galvanized steel tightening bolt, co-moulded with break-off head to ensure correct tightening torque.
  • All construction parts are captive, preventing the loss of components during overhead installation.

Functionality

  • Allows simultaneous connection on the main through cable and the branch cable, without stripping the insulation.
  • Enables installation on live cables, in compliance with company safety procedures.
  • Ensures a protection degree not lower than IP2X before full tightening and IP4X after installation, reducing the risk of accidental contact and the ingress of foreign bodies.
  • Compatible with overhead stranded copper or aluminium cables for self-supporting LV networks and suitable for different cross-section ranges on both the main and branch sides.

Compliance

  • Designed for use on LV systems with rated voltage U₀/U = 0.6/1 kV.
  • Degree of protection IP2X/IP4X verified in accordance with CEI 70-1 standards (now CEI EN 60529).
  • Markings on each unit: manufacturer, year of manufacture, ENEL designation code, NTET identification code, type of insulating material.
  • Connector suitable for use with ENEL-coded overhead cables (DC412x, DC418x series, etc.), in compliance with self-supporting LV network specifications.

Versatile Applications

  • Branching on self-supporting LV cables in copper or aluminium for overhead distribution networks.

  • Creation of tapping points for single or grouped users on low-voltage lines.

  • Connection of service lines or public lighting systems from existing LV feeders.

  • Maintenance and upgrading operations on overhead lines in secondary substations or urban distribution networks.
