Geotechnical Pipe GFRP consolidation tube with improved bond

NTET manufactures GFRP fiberglass consolidation tubes for geotechnical applications in tunnels. The geotechnical pipe with improved bond (code T0PO0166) is designed for the temporary and/or permanent stabilization of the excavation face, crown and side walls.

The helical groove (5 mm wide, 1.5 mm deep, 20 mm pitch) improves adhesion with the cementitious mix and allows jointing by means of external galvanized steel couplings.

Technical specifications

Material composition

Glass fibre reinforced polyester resin (GFRP): unsaturated polyester resin, glass filament fibres and mat fibres.

  • Glass fibres: ~ 60%
  • Density: ~ 1.9 g/cm³ (UNI 7092)
  • Tensile strength: ≥ 800 MPa (UNI 5819 / UNI EN 61)
  • Shear strength: ≥ 120 MPa (ASTM D 732)

Values refer to tests carried out in the preferred fibre direction.

Dimensional characteristics

  • External diameter: Ø 60 mm
  • Internal diameter: Ø 40 mm
  • Groove: 5 mm wide, 1.5 mm deep (±0.5), 20 mm pitch

Valving system

Available on request in two types:

  • Elastic sleeve valve (V): covers the injection holes
  • Button valve (B): pressure-fit rubber cap

Ø 10 mm holes, 50 cm spacing (modifiable). For the injection of cementitious mixes.

Accessories

Galvanized steel coupling sleeve (code N5PO0007) for connecting VTR 60/40 pipe segments.

Applications

Designed for consolidation works in underground infrastructure projects.

Excavation face stabilization

Temporary and permanent consolidation of the excavation face in unstable ground.

  • Crown and side wall consolidation

Structural reinforcement of tunnel crowns and side walls under construction or maintenance.

  • Crown and side wall consolidation

Structural reinforcement of tunnel crowns and side walls in tunnels under construction or maintenance.

  • Cementitious injection

With the valving system (V or B), it allows controlled injection of cementitious mixes for permanent ground consolidation.

FAQ

Elastic valve (V): rubber sleeve that deforms under pressure to allow injection and closes again automatically. Button valve (B): pressure-fit rubber cap, removable at the time of injection. Both cover Ø 10 mm holes.

Length is customizable on request. The segments are joined with the galvanized steel coupling sleeve (code N5PO0007).

Yes. GFRP pipes are easily demolishable with TBM cutters and excavators, unlike steel bars: a key advantage for the consolidation of excavation faces that must later be excavated.
